Treasure Box Program
Boxes For Children At The Shriner's Hospitals
A wonderful program was started years ago by a wonderful artist by the name of Jan McCraw, also known as "Ladybug" (link to her site) It is called The Treasure Box Program and what is does is provides hand painted/decorated store bought shoe boxes for seriously ill children at the Shriner's Hospitals around the country. Each child who visits the hospital is in desperate need for medical care and many are there for a long time and far away from home. The Treasure Box gives each child the opportunity to put the little trinkets and treasures they may find dear in a safe place during their stay in the hospital.
Today I had the opportunity to take 49 boxes to the Erie Pennsylvania Shriner's Hospital. I can't take credit for these beautifully decorated boxes because they all were done by members of the following churches: Linesville Presbyterian Church, Hartstown Presbyterian Church and the Church of the Redeemer in Meadville. All of these wonderful churches are located in western Pennsylvania, near the Ohio border and just north of Pittsburgh - Go Steelers!
I enlisted other churches and they have been working on their boxes during Vacation Bible School and Outreach Programs. Those will be gathered up and taken up to The Erie Shriner's Hospital sometime in the next month or so.
I feel so blessed to be a part of this program and if you want to participate, please either contact me or the originator of The Treasure Box Program and we will help you along the way.
I will be showing pictures of some of the boxes in the next week or so.
